Technology
A common sentiment in education is to reach a child, you have to meet them where they're at. We believe this applies to technology as well. In pursuit of creating a more relevant experience for our students, we work to bring them incredibly powerful tools.
Nothing happens with just a tool, however. We work very hard to not let a device be the focus of a lesson. Instead, the tool plays a support role, but only when it can make a lesson better. Until then, it needs to sit on the sidelines.
With this in mind, we are proud of our incredible teachers who continue to learn professionally in an on-going effort to become their personal best. Our teachers continually study research-based best practices for not only pedagogy, but also technology.
So what happens when you combine a powerful tool with an incredible teacher? We find this combination creates an atmosphere where anything is possible through dreaming big and working hard.
While all of our students do receive an iPad along with a keyboard and Logitech Crayon (stylus), our goal is not just to place a device in the hands of every student. Students will do much more than keyboarding or typing papers. Collaboration, whether with a classmate or with people 3,000 miles away, are the norm. Analysis and problem solving skills are cultivated. We strive to prepare our students for their future. This can't be done when the classroom doesn't align with the "outside world." Technology is in use everywhere and we prepare students to excel in life.
One-to-One Devices
MSD of Wabash County is a K-12 one-to-one school district and has been since 2012. One-to-one indicates a program that provides one computer for every student.
All MSDWC students receive a 7th generation iPad that is placed in a Logitech Rugged Combo 2 case. This case has a built-in keyboard and also comes with the Logitech Crayon. Our schools are supported by an on-site tech assistant that can help both students and staff with day-to-day technology issues.
