Southwood Named to Advanced Placement School Honor Roll

College Board has named Southwood Jr/Sr High to the 2025 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, with Silver distinction.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and maximizing college readiness. Only 36% of eligible schools earned a place on the 2025 AP School Honor Roll.

“Southwood prepares our students for their unique paths after graduation. Our AP program is a key part of that, offering 10 different courses that build students' reading, writing, and critical thinking skills,” said Tim Drake, Chief Academic Officer. “Being named to the AP School Honor Roll is a reflection of our teachers' dedication and our students' willingness to dream big and work hard. As a small school, we take pride in offering these nationally recognized opportunities with high expectations that demand hard work.”

Southwood offers 10 AP courses. 61% of Southwood’s seniors took at least one AP Exam, with 42% scoring a 3 or higher, and 21% took five or more AP Exams!

“AP gives students the opportunity to engage with college-level work, earn college credit and placement, and build professional career skills they can use no matter what path they choose after high school,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program.

College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies and credits while still in high school. Through AP courses students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
